Outsider art is a term popularly used in Europe to describe art produced by self-taught artists who are not part of the artistic establishment. With formal training in design and an early career as a textile artist, Julie is primarily self-taught in the jewellery realm. She’s now intent on developing her skills and a design sense that originates from her frequent travels and a life lived large. Using mixed metals, found materials and preferring a larger scale, Julie creates body adornments that are sculptural, textural, have an archaeological feel and are definitely not mainstream.
